STELLA Biography

LAURA NADEAU: Lead vocals, guitar, and songwriter. Originally from Cleveland, Laura has been writing and playing songs since her college days, in Athens, Ohio. She moved to Austin in the early 1990's, and became part of the expanding music scene playing with Slaid Cleaves and others. She returned to Athens and put together STELLA in 1998.

John "Catfish" Juliano: Guitars, mandolin, fiddle, vocals. John began playing bluegrass music as a teenager in Cleveland. A string wizard, Catfish's musical palette spans bluegrass to psychedelic to finger-pickin' to the blues and beyond.

Mark Hellenberg : Drums, percussion, and vocals. Mark is a highly sought out percussionist playing in many innovative bands like Hotpoint, The Sevens, and The Wingnuts. He has appeared on numerous national and international CD releases. He is a programmer and DJ on public radio, WOUB FM in Athens, Ohio.

Dave Baer : Bass. Recently switching from guitar to bass, Dave has studied with the legendary Jack Casady of Jefferson Airplane, Hot Tuna, and Jefferson Starship. Dave also has a radio show on public radio, WOUB AM, in Athens, Ohio, on Saturdays.

STELLA has performed with such artists as NRBQ, JD Hutchison, the Carpenter Ants, Greg Brown, and Robert Earl Keen, and has also been featured on several radio programs in the regional area. This year, 2004, STELLA took 1st Place in the coveted Best Of Athens Readers Poll by the Athens NEWS, for the category of Best Local Band.
